The Macallan Double Cask Gold is a smooth, approachable Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from The Macallan, formerly known simply as Gold in the 1824 Series before being reborn under the Double Cask name in 2018 as part of the brand’s core range. It celebrates The Macallan’s mastery of oak maturation by marrying spirit aged in hand-picked first-fill American oak (bringing sweet vanilla, honey and bright orchard fruit character) with spirit from European oak sherry-seasoned casks (adding soft spice, dried fruit and nutty depth), creating a harmonious, burnished-gold dram that reflects the distillery’s heritage of exceptional cask selection. Bottled at 40% ABV with natural colour, this expression opens with creamy butterscotch and candied orange peel on the nose, leading into a palate of honeyed sweetness, citrus zest and gentle oak spice balanced with raisins and caramel, before a warm, slightly drying finish that showcases both sides of its oak-influenced makeup and makes it an easy-drinking yet characterful introduction to Macallan style.
